The distance between Milan and Venice is not so long, it is a about 175 miles or so, less than three hours train time, and you can also stop and experience some fabulous cities between the two ( Brescia, Verona, Vicenza and Padua).
If you want to travel with your personal car you need to know that you can do this and that you will only have to leave it in a lot when you want to go to Venice and from there take the Vaporetto, which is a mean of transportation that was specially designated for Venice. The ticket for the Vaporetto is not very expensive but the experience is great.
You will immediately notice the difference between the to cities, no matter which of them you have visited first.
This two cities could make the trip or vacation of your lifetime and this would be the dream vacation especially for a women that loves shopping but who is also very romantic.
